Explore the benefits of absorbent oils for deeply nourishing your skin. Learn how to choose and use oils that hydrate, restore, and enhance your skin’s natural glow.
We have been making our own body butters for the past three years. It all began with a personal battle against dry skin that just would not go away. What started as a need quickly became a deeper journey into understanding how skin really works and what it truly needs.
While visiting family in Jamaica, I had a conversation that changed everything. A local dermatologist explained something I had never considered. Dry skin is not the same as normal skin. It actually has more spacing in the outermost layer, which makes it harder for moisture to stay in. Because of this, dry skin needs more than just a regular lotion. It needs rich creams or deeply nourishing emollients that can sink in and support the skin from within.

This got me thinking. Could I create something that actually meets this need in a natural and effective way? I began exploring oils, not just for their texture or scent, but for their ability to absorb into the skin and bring real moisture and added benefits.
Here are some of the most absorbent and skin loving oils we have worked with so far.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba is a standout oil when it comes to absorption. It closely resembles the skin’s natural oils, which makes it ideal for filling in the spaces in dry skin and locking in moisture. It is also great for balancing oil production and clearing congestion, which is why we often recommend it for facial use.
Rosehip Oil
Rosehip is another oil that absorbs beautifully. It is full of essential fatty acids and contains a natural source of vitamin C, which supports skin repair and helps improve overall texture. Because it can be a little intense on its own, we love pairing it with a more stable carrier like jojoba to make it even more effective.
Argan Oil
Argan oil has been treasured in many cultures for good reason. It leaves the skin soft, smooth, and well nourished. It absorbs relatively quickly and is packed with vitamin E and other antioxidants that support skin health from the inside out.
Grapeseed Oil
Light and gentle, grapeseed oil is perfect for sensitive or acne prone skin. It is high in linoleic acid, which helps strengthen the skin’s barrier and reduce clogged pores. Its fast absorption and silky finish make it a beautiful addition to body and face oils alike.
More Absorbent Oils to Consider
Squalane
Squalane, especially when plant based, is incredibly lightweight and almost disappears into the skin. It hydrates without any greasy residue and is excellent for sensitive skin.
Camellia Seed Oil
This oil has been used in Japan for centuries. It is rich in antioxidants and oleic acid, and penetrates deeply without clogging pores. It is especially suited for dry or mature skin types.
Marula Oil
Marula oil is smooth, gentle, and quick to absorb. It is high in oleic acid and works beautifully in the colder months when the skin is often drier and more vulnerable.
Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet almond oil takes a little longer to absorb than some of the others, but it is deeply nourishing and gentle enough for everyday use. It is rich in vitamins and works well when blended with other oils to create a balanced body formula.
At Soulroot Botanica, we are always experimenting and refining our blends with one goal in mind — to support the skin in the most natural and effective way possible. We believe that wellness can begin with simple, nourishing ingredients. When you understand how your skin works and what it really needs, nature has already provided the answers.
We would love to hear from you. What oils have worked best for your skin? Have you tried mixing your own blends?
