I didn’t grow up loving my skin.
In fact, for most of my life, I struggled with it.
Painful acne. Deep scarring. Skin that never “behaved,” no matter what I tried.
I saw doctor after doctor, tried prescription creams, antibiotics, facials, and everything in between. Nothing really helped, not in a lasting way. At one point, I felt like my skin was the enemy. I was frustrated, exhausted, and honestly, ashamed.
Eventually, I stopped chasing quick fixes.
I started asking better questions.
What was my skin trying to tell me?
What if I stopped trying to fight it and started trying to understand it?
That shift led me down a different path. A slower, plant-based, more honest one. It’s the path that inspired Soul Root Botanica. And if your skin has ever made you feel lost or disconnected, I want to share what I’ve learned.
Your Skin Isn’t Broken,It’s Communicating
Whether it’s breakouts, dryness, sensitivity, or scars—your skin is talking.
The real question is: are we listening?
Here’s what I wish someone had told me years ago:
- Your skin changes because you change. Hormones, food, stress, sleep, climate (they all play a role).
- You don’t need 10 products. You need a few that work with your rhythm.
- Sometimes, healing skin means healing your nervous system too.
Plants Changed Everything
When I started working with herbs, I wasn’t looking for a miracle. I just wanted relief, something gentle that didn’t make things worse.
These are some of the herbs that helped me most:
- Neem: It helped calm my breakouts without the harsh side effects of medicated products.
- Turmeric: Slowly reduced some of the redness and supported skin tone.
- Marshmallow root: Made my skin feel less tight and reactive.
- Calendula: Gave my irritated skin a chance to finally rest and repair.
- Burdock root: Helped from the inside out when I drank it as a tea.
These plants didn’t “fix” me overnight. But over time, they reminded my skin and me that healing doesn’t have to be violent. It can be soft. It can be slow. It can come from nature.
Your Skin Is On Your Side
It took me years to stop treating my skin like a project.
Now, it’s a relationship. And like any relationship, it takes listening, patience, and care.
Some days, I still break out.
Some scars never fully faded.
But I don’t hate my skin anymore.
I respect it. I work with it. And most importantly, I show up for it.
Let’s Talk About It
Have you struggled with your skin too?
Have you found ways to reconnect with it through plants, ritual, or rest?
