Discover the tea you didn’t know you needed, a soothing brew that supports your emotions, calms your mind, and nurtures your well-being.
Sometimes, It’s as Simple as Putting the Kettle On.
Lately, I’ve been reminded how powerful a cup of tea can be. Not just for the body, but for the heart. When things feel heavy, foggy, or just off, I’ve started turning to herbs, not to “fix” anything, but to sit with it all a little more gently.
This isn’t about being perfect or having all the right ingredients. It’s about listening in, showing up for yourself in a quiet way, and letting nature hold you while you breathe.
At Soulroot Botanica, I’ve always believed healing doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple and sacred as a warm mug between your hands.
What if your tea could hold space for your emotions?
Certain herbs are like old friends. They don’t demand much. They just show up with softness and support. A few sips of the right blend and suddenly your nervous system exhales. You feel held.
This is a little guide to help you make a tea blend that meets you where you are, emotionally, energetically, spiritually.
Start by Checking In
Before reaching for anything, I like to pause and ask myself
“What am I feeling today?”
Not what you should be feeling. Just what is.
Tired? Stretched thin? Grieving quietly?
Maybe you’re calm but need to feel more grounded or focused.
Your body knows. Your heart knows. The herbs will follow.
Herbs That Support Your Emotional Body
Here are a few plant allies I reach for when emotions run deep or feel unclear:
Lemon Balm — A gentle mood brightener that helps soften anxiety and uplift the heart
Chamomile — Comforting and familiar. Think inner child energy. Soothes the sensitive parts
Lavender — Calms the mind. Great when thoughts are spinning or you’re holding tension
Holy Basil (Tulsi) — Balances the nervous system and brings emotional clarity. A true reset herb
Rose — Tender and heart-opening. I use this when I’m grieving, missing, or needing softness
Oatstraw — Deep nourishment for frayed nerves. Perfect for long-term stress support
Make a Blend That Meets You Where You Are
Here are a few blends I love. All can be made with loose herbs, a tea strainer, and hot water. No pressure, adjust to taste or based on what you have.
Calm and Collected
For anxiety, emotional clutter, overstimulation
1 teaspoon lemon balm
1 teaspoon chamomile
Half a teaspoon lavender
Steep for 10 minutes. Sip slowly. Let your shoulders drop.
Heart Hug
For grief, sadness, or when you feel emotionally raw
1 teaspoon rose petals
1 teaspoon holy basil
Half a teaspoon oatstraw
Let this steep while you take some deep breaths. Wrap up in something soft. Let your heart rest.
Rooted and Ready
For focus, clarity, grounding
1 teaspoon holy basil
1 teaspoon oatstraw
A pinch of ginger or licorice if you want a little boost
A great mid-morning tea when you feel scattered but need to move with intention.
A Little Tea Ritual for You
Sometimes I turn tea-making into a mini ritual. Here’s a version I come back to often:
Choose your herbs based on how you’re feeling
Boil your water with presence. Use this moment to stretch or just breathe
As it steeps, whisper a word into your mug such as ease, clarity, gentleness, grounding, whatever you need
Sip slowly without distractions
Notice. Don’t force anything to happen. Just notice what shifts
From Me to You
There’s something so special about letting plants care for us not as a trend but as a remembering. A return.
So next time your energy feels off, your emotions are loud, or you just need a moment to land back in your body, make a cup of tea. Let it hold you. Let it remind you that care doesn’t have to be complicated.
There’s quiet magic in the everyday. And sometimes that magic tastes like rose and oatstraw.
